Macht und Terror in Zeiten der Globalisierung - damit greift der spanische Künstler, David Curto, ein brisantes Thema auf. Das globale Phänomen des individuellen Terrorismus findet seinen Ausdruck in den Installationen Curtos, die in der Galerie Caesar & Koba vom 13. Juni bis 2. August erstmals in Hamburg gezeigt werden.
Im Zentrum der Ausstellung Spaßterrorismus steht die interaktive Installation La Mara, deren Titel der Künstler einer zentralamerikanischen Jugendbande entliehen hat. Das Werk erinnert an ein Tätowierungsstudio mit industriellen Produktionsabläufen, an denen sich das Publikum assistierend beteiligt. Die Aufgabe: die individuelle Zusammenstellung des jeweils nach eigenem Geschmack gewünschten Mitgliedes der Terroristenbande.
Curtos Arbeiten ziehen Parallelen zu unserem parlamentarischen System, das sich von immer wiederkehrenden diktatorischen Grausamkeiten zur komplexen Demokratie entwickelt hat. Einer Demokratie, die durch individuellen Widerstand keine klassische Diktatur mehr zulässt und sich zugleich durch immer undurchschaubarer gewordene globale Zusammenhänge und Abhängigkeiten auszeichnet.
David Curto (*1973 in Tortosa, Spanien) studierte 1991-96 Bildende Kunst an der Universität Barcelona. Der junge Künstler wurde bisher in zahlreichen Ausstellungen auf dem europäischen Kunstparkett präsentiert. Er lebt und arbeitet in Barcelona.

Power and terror in times of globalization - this truly explosive topic is the centre of a new exhibition by the Spanish artist David Curto. The global phenomenon of individual terrorism is expressed in Curto`s installations, which will be shown for the first time in Hamburg from June 13 to August 4 at the Galerie Caesar & Koba.
Centre point of the exhibition Spaßterrorismus (fun terrorism) is the interactive installation La Mara whose title the artist borrowed from a Central American gang of youths. The work is reminiscent of a tattoo studio with individual production processes, in which the public act as assisting participants. Their job: individual compilation according to their own taste of members of the terrorist groups.
Curto`s works draw parellels to our parliamentary system which has developed from recurring dictatorial atrocities to complex democracy. A democracy which through individual resistance no longer allows classic dictatorship and which at the same time stands out due to ever more unfathomable global connections and dependence.
David Curto (*1973 in Tortosa, Spain) studied fine art from 1991-96 at the University of Barcelona. This young artist has been presented at many exhibitions on the European art scene. He lives and works in Barcelona.
